How does the EIA process work?
Within the overall EIA process there are 2 main stages:
During the first stage, the applicant undertakes an assessment of the development with a view to identifying the potential environmental issues encountered during its design, construction and life-span. This involves consultation, data collection and environmental studies to highlight any areas of significance risk to the environment, as well as to determine any appropriate associated mitigation measures.
The second phase is a review of the submitted data, that is the Environmental Statement or ES, by the relevant planning authority. They will also seek further information from the applicant if necessary, and take into account additional consultations and public representations.
