Abricon was tasked to carry out a great crested newt population size class assessment of a former landfill site and quarry in Nuneaton. This survey was needed to support the planning application for the development of a materials recycling facility.

The survey involved sampling ten water bodies in the vicinity of the development site using three different sampling methods. A total of six survey visits were completed; with the results concluding that a medium size population existed on site.

This survey information was essential in granting planning permission and applying for a development licence from Natural England, and to develop an appropriate mitigation strategy.
