Waste Management and Waste Regulation

Companies are aware that waste regulations are having an increasing impact on their business. This relates to all sectors of industry, commercial business and even households.

As a result of a number of court cases in the UK and the European Court of Justice, substances are considered a waste sooner and stay classified as waste longer than previously thought. Combined with the amount of EC Directives specific to certain wastes e.g. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), and business activities e.g. farming the area of waste compliance, is increasingly complex.

If your business involves producing, storing, treating or disposing of waste, then a number of regulatory requirements will apply to you.

Waste Management duties can be ongoing, for example Duty of Care Regulations will apply when you pass your waste to another company to handle it on your behalf. Your obligations extend way beyond the initial transfer of the waste, in fact you are responsible for ensuring that the waste reaches the correct facility that is authorised to deal with it.

Abricon can assist you with identifying what standards and conditions your business is obliged to meet under UK and EEC law, and can help you to manage your waste issues in a responsible and appropriate manner.
