Support to join the EU Emission Trading Scheme |
Abricon provided support to a multi-site blue chip company joining the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
As a first step Abricon identified each site’s activities covered under the Scheme and, based on total thermal input, established which sites would fall under the Scheme. Subsequently Abricon prepared and submitted Greenhouse Gas Permit applications for each of the sites to the appropriate regulators. Once the sites received their permits, evidence packs had to be compiled for external verification by an independent body.
This task entailed ensuring the information to be submitted by installations conformed to the requirements of the EU ETS guidelines, including consistency, accuracy and completeness.
Abricon developed a spreadsheet specifically to provide an easy to follow calculation
method to determine the CO2 emissions for each of the sites. This tool was designed to be used not only for the determination of baseline emissions but could also be used to track emissions on an on-going basis. The resulting verification report by the external verifier then had to be submitted together with the National Allocation Plan (NAP) forms.
Currently Abricon is supporting each site’s annual reporting and verification efforts.
