Remediation

Abricon has extensive experience in the remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater throughout the UK and overseas.

On sites where remediation is necessary, we believe that it should fulfill the following criteria:

  • Cost effectiveness

  • Rapid completion

  • Fulfilment of objectives

  • Environmental protection

  • Regulatory approval and compliance

With the forthcoming abolition of landfill tax exemption and the increases in tax from 2009, ‘dig-and-dump’ will become increasingly less viable as an option.

Abricon can provide innovative techniques to provide cost effective alternatives. Every site is different in terms of its characteristics and contaminants present, we therefore see comprehensive characterisation as a key part of our remedial strategy. This enables us to assess the available remedial options and to recommend the most suitable techniques for a particular site.

Available techniques include:

  • Soil vapour extraction

  • Air sparging

  • Free phase recovery

  • Chemical oxidation

  • Enhanced bioremediation

  • Thermal desorption

  • Base catalysed decomposition (BCD)

Additional services include:

  • Remedial options appraisal

  • Regulatory liaison

  • Validation reports

  • Environmental permitting

  • Waste management advice

For the more difficult sites, such as those contaminated with acid tars, explosives, dioxins or pesticides we have a range of techniques and experience that we can utilise. This is achieved by using the mix of skills available at Abricon and TCSR.

We view site remediation as a last resort to be carried out only when risk assessment shows it to be absolutely necessary.
